Concerts coming up at The Machine Shop

FLINT — The Machine Shop, 3539 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, will present Dope, July 12, with special guests Ballz Deluxe, Crackjaw and XFactor 1. Tickets are $15 in advance.

Whitey Morgan and the 78s, with special guests Doop & the Inside Outlaws, will perform July 13. Tickets are $10 in advance.

The Theory of a Deadman show scheduled for July 16 is sold out.

10 Years Minus the Machine Tour, with special guests Fair to Midland and Kyng will perform July 18. Tickets are $18 in advance.

The Moments and Memories Tour, featuring It Lies Within and Myths and Legends, with special guests Givensix, Shogun, Above the Abyss and Until Solace, will be featured at the Machine Shop July 19. Tickets are $10 in advance.

Muscle Cars at Sloan

FLINT — Muscle Cars are on display at the Sloan Museum, 1221 E. Kearsley St., through Sept. 16. From a 1957 Chrysler 300 to a 1987 BuickGNX, this exhibit is sure to appeal to visitors of all ages.

Since they stormed on the scene in the mid-sixties, these high-powered behemoths changed the face of the automotive industry forever. Learn the stories that shaped each one of these American icons.

UM-Flint presents summer vocal camp

FLINT — For the 29th summer, the University of Michigan-Flint will present an intensive, two-week performing arts camp for area senior (grades 9-12) students.

The Summer Vocal Academy of Music (SVAM) will take place July 23–Aug. 3 for the Senior Academy, with classes held on the UM-Flint campus Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m. The registration fee is $155.

The Summer Vocal Academy provides a unique opportunity for high-school students to receive focused instruction in vocal music, as well as artistic and performance experiences that will enrich, expand, and compliment their skill sets. Trained instructors, including UM-Flint faculty, teach all courses, and students will perform a final concert at the end of each academy.

Classes offered include: Academy Choir (meeting twice a day); Men’s/Women’s Ensemble (Senior Academy); Dance and Movement; Vocal Techniques Class; Music Theory (Senior Academy); Art (Junior Academy); World Percussion (Junior Academy); Steel Drum and Percussion (Senior).
