Concerts coming up at The Machine Shop

FLINT — The Machine Shop, 3539 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, will present Surviving Justin, the official CD release concert, with special guest Mandi Lane, Aug. 31. This is a low dough concert.

Ventana, with special guests 5ubkultur3 and Monochrome Circuit, will perform Sept. 1. This is a low dough concert.

Nonpoint will perform Sept. 7 with Bobaflex, Ionia and Prospect Hill. Tickets are $15 in advance.

Muscle Cars and Motor Madness exhibit is Sept. 5

FLINT — Barry Schoenholz will be the featured artist Sept. 5-Oct. 31 with an exhibition of his work Muscle Cars and Motor Madness in the Founders Art Sales and Rental Gallery at the Flint Institute of Arts. A reception on Sept. 9 from 1-3 p.m. will include a talk by the artist.

Schoenholz is a former teacher, professor and Superintendent of the Lapeer School District who now resides in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The artist uses an abstract style in his paintings that reflect an automotive theme. Muscle Cars and Motor Madness coincides with the Back to the Bricks events and the final weeks of the Sloan Museum’s auto exhibition. — G.G.

Live entertainment at Louie’s

LAPEER — Louie’s Sports Tavern, 3301 Davison Rd., will feature Davison Magpie with Drew Machak — a local singer/songwriter who combines blues, pop and soul. He sings everything from The Black Keys to Stevie Wonder to originals you can’t hear anywhere else — tonight (Aug. 30) starting at 9:30 p.m.

Jamie Marvin, a local classic rock, rock and pop singer, will perform Aug. 31 starting at 9:30 p.m.

Whaley House open for tours

Classic Cars at Sloan

FLINT — Muscle Cars are on display at the Sloan Museum, 1221 E. Kearsley St., through Sept. 16. From a 1957 Chrysler 300 to a 1987 BuickGNX, this exhibit is sure to appeal to visitors of all ages.

Since they stormed on the scene in the mid-’60s, these high-powered behemoths changed the face of the automotive industry forever. Learn the stories that shaped each one of these American icons.
