Hometown Days Chairwoman Brenda Huyck says the 2021 festival was “the best one ever.” Total attendance is estimated at 45,000 to 50,000 visitors. “It was the biggest one we ever had,” Huyck said. “It went really well.” The committee will be looking for more volunteers and plans to beef up security for crowd control in 2022. “We thank our community and our sponsors for supporting us,” said Huyck. “It was a hard year, a very hard year. We are proud of what we did do under the circumstances and given the weather. The weather was really hot, and we had a lot of people getting dehydrated. That was very alarming because there were so many, even kids, who were not drinking enough water in this heat.” Huyck also thanked the fire department and, in particular, firefighter Dave Myers for helping with the medical issues given that there is still a countywide shortage of emergency medical personnel. All in all, “it was a great festival,” Huyck said.
