BURTON
— Area senior citizens had the chance to get up close and personal with some of the furry friends at the Genesee County Humane Society for its Simply Seniors event 2-4 p.m. Sept. 24.
The event kicked off with a welcome from the humane society, followed by arts and crafts, tours of the facility, refreshments and a video. Several tables were set up in the shelter, allowing seniors to make crafts ranging from colorful, decorative hats to handpainted birdhouses. One of the highlights of the Simply Seniors event was a dog agility demonstration by Executive Director David Tucker and his eight-yearold Golden Retriever, Cheddar.
Due to the weather, the demonstration was held inside the humane society, but the seniors enjoyed the variety of dog agility feats performed by Tucker and Cheddar. Tucker displayed Cheddar’s ability to respond to hand signals, as well as his ability to pick out one specific item among many others. Following the demonstration, the Simply Seniors event concluded with a question and answer session and Golden Friendship Adoptions.

Cheddar, a Golden Retriever owned by Executive Director David Tucker, shows off his skills during a dog agility demonstration.
