Hurley launches Hernia Center of Excellence

FLINT — Hurley Medical Center has announced the addition of the Hurley Hernia Center of Excellence, the only service and facility of its kind in the region, dedicated to caring for a wide range of hernia related repair and surgeries.

Treatment plans utilize the latest innovations including lightweight, high-strength meshes that are custom tailored for men and women to create tension-free hernia repairs. Procedures at Hurley offer faster recovery time and minimal pain, allowing you to get back to work or the recreational pursuits you enjoy.

McCann is the Chief of Hurley Trauma and Surgical Critical Care. Dr. McCann received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, Calif.

McCann completed his Residency in General Surgery and Traditional Internship at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc. Dr. McCann completed his Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and Trauma Fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Prior to coming to Hurley, McCann was Principal/Sub-Investigator at Cotton-O’Neil Clinical Research Center in Topeka, Kansas (2010-present) and Trauma/General/Surgical Critical Care Surgeon and Trauma Medical Director, Director of SICU at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas, from 2009-present. Dr. McCann served as Trauma/General/Surgical Critical Care Surgeon at St. Mary’s/Duluth Clinic Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota from 2006-2008; Trauma/General/Surgical Critical Care Surgeon and Assistant Trauma Medical Director (Co-Director of SICU) at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas from 2008-2009.

McCann is Board Certified in General Surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, and the American Osteopathic Board of Critical Care Surgery. McCann is seeing hernia and surgical patients at Hurley Comprehensive Surgical Group, Two Hurley Plaza, Suite 109, Flint.
