FLINT — Having a Leap Year baby is rare, but the Hurley Mother-Baby Units always go above and beyond for local families.
This year, Mother-Baby has welcomed seven Leap Year babies to Mid-Michigan! 5 boys and 2 girls. It has been a busy Saturday and will surely be a Leap Year to remember.
The first baby to be born on this Leap Day was sweet little Heavenly Gilbert, born at 1:31am, weighing 7.1 pounds and 20 ½ inches long. This is the 4th daughter for parents Justin and Arianna Gilbert of Mt. Morris. They call the experience with Hurley Mother-Baby “absolutely excellent” saying their nurse and doctor couldn’t have been any better. Justin said when they arrived at Hurley on Friday, “This date only comes once every four years so let’s shoot for it.” But they added, “Obviously we have no control over it.”
Hurley Mother-Baby works hard every day to make sure each family’s birth is special. We play a part in 3,000 births a year. It’s no wonder so many moms are choosing to deliver at Hurley. As a blue Distinction Center for Maternity Care, Hurley has the area’s highest level of obstetric and gynecological services.
Next Saturday’s Hurley Ball is raising money to elevate the “experience” of labor and delivery and the mother-baby units even more. Donations can be made at: www.hurleyfoundation.org/donate
