FLINT — Hurley Medical Center and HAP are hosting the “What’s Your Flu IQ” community fair at the Flint Farmers’ Market on Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The first 50 attendees will receive a voucher for a free turkey (limit one turkey per family). Attendees can also participate in Flu IQ activities, prizes and get access to health and wellness information.
The event will offer individuals of all ages free or low-cost vaccinations. Vaccines to guard against diseases such as Hepatitis, Pneumonia and the Flu will be administered by Genesee County Health Department and Genesee Health Plan.
Adults and guardians accompanying children should bring identification and a health insurance card. Those without proof of health insurance may qualify to receive free immunizations or may be required to pay a small fee. Onsite health insurance experts will help attendees determine health insurance status.
Hurley and HAP want families have healthier holidays by making sure more individuals are vaccinated. This Immunization Report Card illustrates the low vaccination rates in Genesee County. When individuals from distances meet, many could infect each other with airborne illnesses like the Flu. Vaccinations received at this fair will become fully effective two weeks after receiving it — in time for Thanksgiving. — G.G.
