GRAND BLANC — With her razor-sharp wit still intact, local barber Christine Ackerman wants everyone in the county to know she is alive and trimming.
The owner of C.A. Barbershop formerly cut hair in a 3000 sq. ft. Burton space on Bristol Rd. with one chair in it, “that was big enough to house my personality, ”she said.
Now she is proud to announce the new location on Dort Hwy in Grand Blanc.
The space is a point of pride for the barber, with its’ natural light and professional appearance befitting both her skill set and her endurance professionally and personally.
On Tuesday morning Bruce VanVlack stopped in for a trim by his favorite barber.
“I’m a regular customer. I’ve been coming to Christine since 1996,” he said.
VanVlack travels from his home in Goodrich for Christine’s talented work and some laughter-infused conversation.
This past Tuesday morning VanVlack brought his favorite barber flowers upon arrival for his usual monthly appointment.
He also brought the sharp wit too, and each man who opened the doors after with a smile for Ackermann seemed to have the same disposition.
The atmospheric and communal elements of relaxation, uninhibited wit, and comedic sparring: beyond the precision hair- cuts were the standout attributes apparent, of that which personifies the allure of a barbershop.
What Ackerman offers is the epitome of the classic barbershop experience with the added bonus of a small dash of uplifting empathy, executed flawlessly in-between comic banter.
“She tells it like it is, and I like that,” said Bill Spurling, of Davison.
Ackerman’s raw honesty and lack of self-consciousness garner her the rare position to be treated like just one of the guys, while also as the unique and wonderful woman she is in the eyes of clients, friends, and visitors.
Ackerman went through a Breast Cancer diagnosis and ensuing chemotherapy and radiation in 2009.
