Church showing free movies

FLINT TWP. — “Hidden Figures” the acclaimed movie about the first black women to work in the space program is among movies being shown during the annual Film Fest at Hope United Methodist Church, 4467 Beecher Road (at Mill Road). Films are shown on a large screen in the church parlor on Sunday nights at 5 p.m. with discussion afterward. This year’s theme is “To Be Inspired”. The list of movies yet to be shown are:

Jan. 28 – “Saving Mr. Banks”

Feb.4 – “Hidden Figures”

Feb. 11 – “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”

Feb. 18 – “Wonder”

Zehnder’s Snowfest

FRANKENMUTH — An annual local favorite, the 27th annual Zehnder’s Snowfest will take place Jan. 24–Jan. 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Snowfest activities take place at 730 S. Main St. and feature ice and snow carving competitions, beer tent with live entertainment, fireworks, petting zoo and other children’s activities. Linkin’ Bridge to headline GDL Black History Brunch

FLINT — Linkin’ Bridge, an a cappella group finalist of America’s Got Talent, will headline Genesee District Library’s 17th Annual Black History Month Brunch to be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 3 at the Genesys Conference & Banquet Center in Grand Blanc. During the brunch, the Genesee District Library will recognize Pastor Jeffery Hawkins, Mr. Charles “Chuckii” Montgomery, Jr. and Mr. Sam Wells for their achievements, contributions and service as well as Communities First, Inc. with the Partner in Progress Award. Tickets for the event are $35 each and can be purchased at the Genesee District Library’s Headquarters Branch, 4195 W. Pasadena Avenue, during regular hours, or online at www.thegdl.org. Governor candidate to speak

MT. MORRIS TWP. — A town hall talk will be held 6:30 – 8 p.m., March 13 with Gubernatorial Candidate Abdul El-Sayed at Dom Polski of Flint, 3415 North Linden Road. El-Sayed will discuss the Flint water crisis and introduce our water policy before taking questions from the crowd. This event is free and open to the public. — P.S.
