Scholarship gala is this weekend

FLINT — On Saturday, February 17, Black Classical Origins (BCO) in collaboration with the Flint Institute of Music (FIM) will hosts its annual Scholarship Gala, at the FIM. The event starts at 5p.m., prior to the performance of the Flint Symphony Orchestra, then heads to The Whiting for the Symphony Orchestra concert. Tickets are available and can be purchased at The Flint Institute of Music or online at BCO was conceived eleven years ago to celebrate and commemorate the role that black composers and musicians have played in performing and shaping classical music.

BCO also promotes participation of African- American students in the performing arts by annually awarding scholarships and tuition assistance to the Flint School of Performing Arts. — R.S.

Get ready for Carman- Ainsworth Kindergarten Round-Up 2018-19

FLINT TWP. — If you have a child who turns age 5 by September 1, plan to attend kindergarten registration at The Learning Community, 1181 W. Scottwood Ave from 8:30–10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. on Feb. 22. Registration information needed includes proof of residency (mortgage/ property tax document, or a lease with two recent pieces of important mail such as: utility bill, insurance document, bank statement, important business correspondence, etc.); a Certified birth certificate; up-to-date immunization record; social security number; custody restrictions (if applicable) and hearing and vision screening results (if done). Date set for annual C-A fundraiser

FLINT TWP. — The 4th annual Silent Auction fundraiser, hosted by the Carman- Ainsworth Education Foundation, will be held at 5:30-8:30 p.m. on April 27 at the Flushing Valley Golf Club & Banquet Center, 1124 E. Main Street, in Flushing. This year’s honorees are Brandon Carr, a Carman-Ainsworth 2004 graduate and current NFL player; Herb Jensen, former C-A central office administrator and Leanne Welch, a third-grade teacher at Rankin Elementary and coach of the C-A middle school VEX Robotics teams. Each is being honored for continuously and unselfishly giving their time, talents, and support for the good of C-A students, families, staff, and the greater school community. Tickets are $25 each and include a buffet dinner. A cash bar will be available. A silent auction of numerous valuable prizes is a highlight of the event.
