Grant helps buy life-saving equipment for fire department

FLINT TWP. — A $3000 grant to the fire department from The Hundred Club of Genesee, Shiawassee and Lapeer Counties will pay for replacement of all three department defibrillators, a lifesaving piece of equipment. said Fire Chief Tom Stadler in an announcement to the township board. The 100 Club is an organization of Genesee, Shiawassee and Lapeer County residents who contribute money each year for the benefit of public servants who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty.

They also invest some funds in safety related equipment and have made grants for first aid and emergency equipment, bulletproof vests, hand radios, personal alert systems for firefighting and a computer network linking more than 30 area law enforcement agencies. To date, more $1 million has been awarded to the police and fire departments of Genesee, Shiawassee and Lapeer Counties for safety-related equipment and for the families of fallen officers and firefighters, according to their website. — R.S.

Summer meals provided

FLINT TWP. — When school lets out for summer, Meet Up and Eat Up, a free summer meal program will begin. Meals are available Monday through Friday for children 18 and younger. C-A now accepting Schools of Choice applications

FLINT TWP. — Carman-Ainsworth Schools is accepting Schools of Choice applications for the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year. There are limited openings at all grade levels at Carman- Ainsworth — Baker Career Academy, C-A High School and C-A Middle School. The application period for grades K-5 ended June 13.
