End of strike means Mill Road bridge work underway

FLINT TWP. — Supervisor Karyn Miller said the strike by the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association, a collective bargaining union representing hundreds of companies who build and repair roads and bridges in Michigan, has ended. The tentative agreement reached between the state and the union restarted many road construction projects around the state, including the Mill Road bridge in Flint Township.

“They were supposed to finish by Thanksgiving,” said Miller. “But at least maybe they’ll finish now by the time it snows.” — G.G.

Flint Township Senior Center to hold pig roast

FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Senior Citizens Center, 2071 S. Graham Rd., will hold a pig roast, Oct. 20. Tickets are $10 and there are 100 tickets available. The roast is from 1-3 p.m. There will also be a Chinese auction. — G.G.

Road closure for Carman- Ainsworth parade, Oct. 5

FLINT TWP. — The area around VanSlyke and Maple roads in Flint Township will be closed. Oct. 5, at 4 p.m. for the Carman- Ainsworth Homecoming Parade. — G.G.

GDL Board Meeting is Oct. 15

FLINT — The Genesee District Library Board of Trustees will meet Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Headquarters branch, 4195 Pasadena Ave. The meetings are open to the public. — G.G.

Longwarts at the Flushing Area Library

FLUSHING — The Flushing Area Library will present Longwarts Bewitching Science on Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. This is Sloan Longway’s version of Hogwarts. Explore the world of wizardry, design your own wand and create magical spells and potions. This event is for ages 6-12. — B.G.

Trick or treat at the YMCA

FLUSHING — Bring the kids for some trick-or-treating at the Pierson Road YMCA on Oct. 26. The event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will include s’mores around the campfire, games and other activities. — B.G.

Trunk or Treat Spooky Trail at Genesee Valley Center

FLINT TWP. — Genesee County 911 will hold a Halloween Trunk or Treat Spooky Trail, Oct. 27 from 12-4 p.m. at the Genesee Valley Center, 3341 S. Linden Rd. The event will take place between Bar Louie and Barnes and Noble. The event is free, safe and will have family fun for all. — G.G.
