SCAHS plans open house

SWARTZ CREEK — The Swartz Creek Area Historical Society will host an open house at the new Archives Room at the Cage Community Center. The open house will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 9. Hometown historical artifacts will be showcased. — L.R.

Parade entry forms available

SWARTZ CREEK — Entry forms for the 34th annual Swartz Creek Area Firefighters Christmas parade are now available online at www.scafd.com/christmasparade.html.

The parade will begin at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 from the north lot of Swartz Creek Middle School, and will proceed north to Miller Road, east to Morrish Road, north to Fortino Drive and west to Fire Station #1.

For information, call 810-635-2300, ext. 120, and leave a message with your name and complete address so an application can be mailed to you.

Awards will be presented to the best walking, motorized and fire truck participants. Santa will be there and the firefighters will serve cider and doughnuts after the parade. — L.R.

Events planned at Perkins Library

SWARTZ CREEK — The Swartz Creek – Perkins Library, 8095 Civic Drive, will host several upcoming events.

The Friends of the Perkins Library will sponsor a class on building outdoor cat shelters from 6-7 p.m. Nov. 12. Cats who live outside are vulnerable to cold, wind, snow and ice in winter. This how-to session will instruct teens and adults on how to create easy, inexpensive shelters. Seating is limited to 12. Register online at www.thegdl.org/swartz-creekperkins library-events.

Coloring Club, a weekly get-together for adults who enjoy coloring, meets from 2-4:30 p.m. Nov. 14. There is no cost and no registration necessary.

Storytime with Miss Sandy, for preschoolers, takes place from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Nov. 15. Storytime is free and there is no registration.

The Friends of the Perkins Library will sponsor a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at Swartz Creek city hall, 8083 Civic Drive. This is a $5 bag sale, so shoppers will pay $5 for all the books they can fit into a grocery bag. — L.R.

Flushing Masons Swiss steak dinner

FLUSHING — It’s Swiss Steak Dinner time! Dinner will be on Dec. 16, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Flushing Masonic Center, 349 S. Seymour Rd. Dinner is $10 per person. Takeouts are available. The public is welcome to join the Flushing Masons for dinner with good friends and great food. — B.G.
