Flushing Township to apply for kayak launch

FLUSHING — The Flushing Township Board of Trustees approved an agreement with ROWE Professional Services Company to prepare a grant application to build a kayak launch in the Flushing Township Nature Park. The township will be applying for a Passport Grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, which could total up to $30,000.

The move comes in response to a survey conducted by ROWE, which found that 70% of respondents wanted more recreational options on the Flint River. Flushing Township Supervisor Fred Thorsby said that an official kayak launch in the Flushing Township Nature Park would give residents another access point to the Flint River. The launch itself would also be handicap accessible. Altogether, the township would only have to pay 20% of the installation cost. — B.G.
