Society of Women Engineers to hold expo at Kettering

FLINT — Kettering University is looking for smart, creative high school girls who want to be college students for a weekend and hang out with others who think science, math, engineering and college life experiences are pretty cool. Kettering will host the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Expo on Feb. 11-12.

Cost for the program is $25. Space is limited to the first 30 high school sophomore and junior female students to register.

Zonta accepting nominations for Women’s Hall of Fame

GENESEE COUNTY — The Zonta Club of Flint 1’s Genesee Regional Women’s Hall of Fame will hold their third annual induction of women into the hall of fame on April 19 at a reception to be held at the Flint Institute of Arts.

Currently the Genesee Regional Women’s Hall of Fame is housed at the Sloan Museum.

Nominations are being accepted by the Selection Committee for the Genesee Regional Women’s Hall of Fame with a deadline of Feb. 28.

The two categories for nomination to the Genesee Regional Women’s Hall of Fame are a Historical Honors Division representing women who are no longer living and a Contemporary Honors Division representing women currently in the community.

Business seminar

FLINT — If you’ve been thinking about starting a business, or recently started one, you’re encouraged to attend a free “Fundamentals of Starting a Business” workshop offered by the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center.

Classes are offered periodically at Kettering University in Flint and the Lapeer campus of Mott Community College as well as other locations around the state.

This two-hour introductory seminar covers readiness to be in business, market research and making sure there is market potential for your product or service, and will provide information and tools to start writing a business plan.

The following classes are scheduled in Flint: Feb. 2, 5-7 p.m.; Feb. 21, 9-11 a.m.; March 8, 1-3 p.m.; and March 20, 9-11 a.m. The following are scheduled in Lapeer at MCC: Feb. 13, 9-11 a.m.; and March 12, 9-11 a.m.
