Food Cooperative information meeting
FLINT — North Flint Food Market will host an informational meeting on a proposed food co-op on Jan. 28 from 6–7:30 p.m. at the market, 5402 Clio Road. Flint residents and national supporters are opening a member-owned market, formally known as a cooperative. This is a unique business opportunity which currently has more than 550 members and would like you to join their effort to reach 800 members by March 2019. A Food Cooperative (coop) is a democratically owned and governed member organization for the people who use its products or services, or are employed by the business in a non-profit venture (surplus generated is reinvested in the business or returned to the members based on their use of its services). Membership in the co-op is per share in the business, but shares don’t change in value like publicly traded corporations, and entitle members to voting privileges in operational matters.
