Compost and yard waste pickup scheduled

FLINT TWP. — Emterra Environmental USA will provide compost and yard waste pickup to all Flint Township residents each Thursday through Nov. 29 and should be placed curbside by 7 a.m. the day of service.

Yard waste should be placed in brown yard waste bags or in plastic 30-gallon containers clearly marked with an “X” facing the street. Branches should be no more than 2 inches in diameter, no longer than 4 feet in length and must be bundled. Bundles and containers must weigh less than 50 pounds. No tree stumps or trunks will be accepted. No compost will be accepted in plastic bags. — J.J.

Huge Indoor Garage and Craft Sale

FLUSHING — The Rotary Club of Flushing has announced the date of its 8th Annual “HUGE” Indoor Garage and Craft Sale as April 27 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The event will be held at Flushing Middle School, 8100 Carpenter Road. There will be over 50 vendors at this event, and this is an opportunity to find many hidden treasures and bargains. There’s sure to be something for everyone. Gleason Community Fund seeking organ donation essays

GENESEE COUNTY — The Gleason Community Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to organ donation, is accepting entries for its 2nd Annual Organ Donation Essay Contest.

Students across Genesee County in grade 12 who are planning to pursue a degree in medicine, preferably transplant medicine, are invited to submit an essay about the importance of organ donation.

Students are encouraged to write about how organ donation benefits patients world-wide and what more can be done to encourage people to become organ donors. The specific essay guidelines are outlined below:

1,500-2,000 words.

Must be a senior (grade 12) enrolled in a Genesee County high school. Entrants must be planning to pursue a career in the medical field, preferably in transplant medicine.

Essay must be typed or clearly hand-written.

The first-place winner will receive $1,500; second place will receive $750; and third place will receive $250.

The deadline to submit essays is April 19. A winner will be chosen May 1. Essays can be submitted electronically to Contact Gary Gould at 810-452-2650 with any questions. — G.G.
