Township to resume business licensing

FLINT TWP.— The Flint Township Board of Trustees Monday approved the second reading of an ordinance to have the issuing of business licenses returned to the city’s Building Department from the Clerk’s Department.

Along with that change, Building Department Administrator Stuart Worthing asked the board to purchase a business license software component that that would help ensure licenses are processed effectively and efficiently in coordination with the Fire Department, Police Department and the Assessment Department. The board approved the purchase at a cost of $12,065. The purchase price includes set up and two days of training for Worthing’s staff. — J.J.

Huge Indoor Garage and Craft Sale

FLUSHING — The Rotary Club of Flushing has announced the date of its 8th Annual “HUGE” Indoor Garage and Craft Sale as April 27 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The event will be held at Flushing Middle School, 8100 Carpenter Road. There will be over 50 vendors at this event, and this is an opportunity to find many hidden treasures and bargains. There’s sure to be something for everyone. Youth rally planned Aug. 9

FLINT — A youth rally to inspire young people to a more impressive future will be held Aug. 9 at Worship Temple Church, 2902 Leith St. at 6 p.m. There will also be a Princess and Prince Ball on Aug. 10 at the Salvation Army, 1475 Coldwater Rd., in from 4-9 p.m. — G.G.

Compost and yard waste pickup scheduled

FLINT TWP. — Emterra Environmental USA will provide compost and yard waste pickup to all Flint Township residents.

Compost and yard waste will be picked up each Thursday through Nov. 29 and should be placed curbside by 7 a.m. the day of service.

Yard waste should be placed in brown yard waste bags or in plastic 30-gallon containers clearly marked with an “X” facing the street. Branches should be no more than 2 inches in diameter, no longer than 4 feet in length and must be bundled. Bundles and containers must weigh less than 50 pounds. No tree stumps or trunks will be accepted. No compost will be accepted in plastic bags. — J.J.

Handbell Festival and Concert

GRAND BLANC —The Faithful Ringers from Faith Lutheran Church and the Celebration Ringers from Grand Blanc United Methodist Church will be participating in the 12th Annual Peggy Van Vlack Memorial Bell Festival on April 27. After a morning workshop, a free public concert will be given in the gymnasium at Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Rd., at 3 p.m. Ringers from several other area handbell choirs will be participating in mass performances as well as solo numbers by individual bell choirs.
