Board makes appointments to committees

FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Board of Trustees made two appointments to township boards at its Monday meeting.

Carole Berry, owner of the Gourmet Wok on Bristol Road, was appointed to the Bristol Road Corridor Improvement Authority. Berry will assume the baker representative’s term, which expires in April 2022.

Dave Huffman, a longtime Flint Township resident, was appointed to the Economic Development Corporation Board. The opening on the EDC board was created by John Koegel, who now serves on the Downtown Development Authority board. Huffman’s term will expire in November 2020. — J.J.

Staff changes at SCCS

SWARTZ CREEK — Swartz Creek Community Schools Athletic Director Sue Calvo has notified the school board that she is retiring this year.

High School Assistant Principal Tony Suchanek will step into the role of athletic director, and middle school Assistant Principal Jodie Morgan will replace Suchanek at the high school.

Daniel Nolan will continue to oversee the Virtual Learning Center and while also handling some of Morgan’s responsibilities at the middle school.

Dave Simancek will join the instructional leadership team as a math coach. His current position as director of Child and Community Education will be consolidated with other administrative positions.

Morrish Elementary School Principal Michele Corbat is moving to the middle school, where she will replace Kevin Klaeren as principal. Klaeren is taking on new duties overseeing the district’s state-mandated reporting and compliance.

More than 90 applicants have submitted resumes for the open Morrish principal job. — L.R.

Team Buddy Forever Foundation Shootout

FLUSHING — Come help the Team Buddy Forever Foundation to fight DIPG and childhood cancer by registering for the Team Buddy Forever Foundation Green Sox Shootout. This tournament will be held at the Flushing Valley Golf & Country Club on June 15, with registration starting at 4:30 p.m. and a shot gun start at 5:30 p.m. The format will consist of two-person teams and will include nine holes of golf with a cart. Pizza, a 50/50 raffle and a contest for the Best Lime Green Golf Outfit will be held after the tournament in the club house. Each golfer will also receive a pair of green Buddy socks.
