Diabetes workshop series starting in Flint in August
FLINT — Are you living with diabetes? Learn how to live a healthier life and take better care of yourself! People with diabetes and their loved ones can learn to manage diabetes in a six-week workshop, offered at no cost to you.
The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) is hosting the evidence-based Diabetes Personal Action Toward Health (D-PATH) program in Flint in August at Fairhaven Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1379 Louis Ave., Flint.
There will be an information session Aug. 6, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
Six weekly sessions start on Tuesday, August 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and continue at the same time and place every Tuesday through September 17.

The interactive workshop features certified leaders to help participants engage in a healthier, more enjoyable life. This program was designed by the developers of the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program at Stanford University (known as the PATH program in Michigan). Diabetes PATH focuses on the following: managing everyday activities with an action plan; avoiding diabetes complications; monitoring and balancing blood sugar and its importance; communicating effectively with loved ones and health care providers; managing symptoms and decreasing stress; and increasing energy and improving overall health. — G.G.
Food Truck Festival coming Aug.23
FLINT TWP. — The third night of the Flint Township Food Truck Festival is Aug. 23 at Vehicle City Harley-Davidson, 2400 Austins Parkway .
The family-friendly event is open to the public and is sponsored by the township Downtown Development Authority. The food trucks are open from 4 to 9 p.m., and a live band plays from 6 to 9 p.m.
Some of the food truck offerings include barbecue, Korean tacos, shrimp tacos, gourmet cheeses, Frankenmuth chicken, reuben sandwiches, tacos, burritos, chips and salsa, pizza, Cuban sandwiches, popcorn, kettle corn, ice cream, apple cider doughnuts and homemade desserts and sweets.

Native Plant Sale at Flushing Township Hall
FLUSHING TWP. — Flushing Township Hall will be hosting a native plant sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 3. Plants will be provided by horticulturist Angela Nelson and Designs by Nature LLC. Nelson will also be available for consultation. The plants are $6 each, with proceeds going toward park improvements for the Flushing Township Nature Park.—B. G.
Humane Society Golf Outing
SWARTZ CREEK — The Humane Society of Genesee County will be hosting its 4th Annual Golf Outing fundraiser on Aug. 3 at the Swartz Creek Golf Course on 1902 Hammerberg Rd. in Flint. The event will kick off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and will follow a four-person scramble format. The cost to enter is $400 per team and includes a cart, lunch and dinner. Funds raised from the outing will help the Humane Society to find permanent and loving homes for homeless and unwanted pets in the community and aid the shelter in its efforts to care for more than 175 companion pets each day. — B.G.
