Food Truck Festival coming August 23

FLINT TWP. — The third night of the Flint Township Food Truck Festival is Aug. 23 at Vehicle City Harley-Davidson, 2400 Austins Parkway .

The family-friendly event is open to the public and is sponsored by the township Downtown Development Authority. The food trucks are open from 4 to 9 p.m., and a live band plays from 6 to 9 p.m.

Some of the food truck offerings include barbecue, Korean tacos, shrimp tacos, gourmet cheeses, Frankenmuth chicken, reuben sandwiches, tacos, burritos, chips and salsa, pizza, Cuban sandwiches, popcorn, kettle corn, ice cream, apple cider doughnuts and homemade desserts and sweets.

Bridge replacement closes part of Linden Road

FLINT TWP. — A bridge replacement project that began Monday in Flint Township has closed part of Linden Road for the next few months.

The Genesee County Road Commission said the bridge over the west branch of Swartz Creek is being replaced. The bridge is located one-tenth of a mile south of Bristol Road along Linden Road.

The work will close Linden Road between Maple and Bristol roads. In the interim, a detour will take motorists via Hill, Miller and Bristol roads. The work is expected to be completed by Nov. 15, weather permitting. — J.J.

Paddle the Flint River with Dan Kildee

FLUSHING — The Flint River Watershed Coalition will be hosting a paddling trip down the Flint River in Flushing on Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. The FRWC paddle tour will once again be joined by Congressman Dan Kildee as it floats from Flushing’s Riverview Park to the Flushing Township Nature Park. This is a relaxing stretch of the Flint River, featuring rocky river beds, ample wildlife and beautiful views all along the river. Plan on a two-hour float, covering about six miles of the Flint River. The FRWC will provide all equipment you need, but space is limited. Harry Potter Coding Club

FLUSHING — The Flushing Area Library will hold a Harry Potter Coding Club on Aug. 15, 22 and 29 at 5:30 p.m. Explore the world of Harry Potter like never before. Using a tablet and your own wand, learn how to use computer coding to cast spells. No coding experience or knowledge necessary. (For children and teens). — B.G.
