Funk earns clerk certification

FLINT TWP. — Flint Township Clerk Kathy Funk has earned the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk, awarded by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks Inc.

IIMC grants the CMC designation only to those municipal clerks who complete demanding education requirements; and who have a record of significant contributions to their local government, their community and state.

The International Institute of Municipal Clerks’ mission is to enhance the education opportunities and professional development of its diverse membership. — J.J.

Fall Craft Show at New Creation Church of God

FLINT TWP. — New Creation Church of God, G-3472 Lennon Rd., will have a Fall Craft Show to benefit its Scholarship Committee, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Shoppers and vendors are needed.

American Legion Centennial Celebration

FLUSHING — The Flushing Area Historical Society will be celebrating the American Legion’s 100th anniversary with an event on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. Come help Flushing American Legion Post #283 celebrate this centennial anniversary and learn how the American Legion is active in Flushing today. Land of the Three Fires

FLUSHING — The Flushing Area Library will present Land of the Three Fires on Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. Michigan’s once-vast forests were giant supermarkets to the Ottawa, Ojibwa, and the Potawatomi (the Three Fires), providing them with everything they needed for survival. Through this hands-on nature study, we will learn how natural resources were used by the Three Fires and how we use them today. — B.G.

Fall Rummage Sale

FLUSHING — The Flushing United Methodist Women are holding their Spring Rummage Sale on Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. Proceeds from the sale benefits mission work for women, children and youth. Gently-used items can be donated at the Flushing United Methodist Church located at 413 East Main Street in Flushing between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon or 1-4 p.m. beginning Monday, Sept. 16. American Legion Golf Outing

SWARTZ CREEK — The American Legion will be presenting the first-ever Boys State Golf Outing Fundraiser on Sept. 19 at the Genesee Valley Golf Course in Swartz Creek. Registration will open at 7:30 a.m., followed by an 8:30 a.m. scramble shotgun start. The cost to enter is $65 per person and includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch at the turn and a buffet dinner.
