Inaugural Deaf Civil Rights 5k run/walk

FLINT — The Michigan Deaf Association and MI Deaf Health host the first Deaf Civil Rights 5k run/walk on Sept. 14, at 8 a.m. at the Michigan School for the Deaf, 1235 W. Court Street. Sales end on Sep 1 at 8 a.m. September is Deaf awareness month! This race was envisioned as a way to promote physical and spiritual health and to increase public awareness of Deaf issues, people, and culture. All proceeds from the 5K will provide the resources to our local Deaf community and will fund programs, workshops, and scholarships to help the deaf community thrive. Details: P.S.

Dort Federal Mom 2 Mom Sale

BURTON — Flint’s Largest Mom 2 Mom Sale is coming to the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center, 3501 Lapeer Rd., Sept. 14 from 8 a.m.–1 p.m. HUGE Mom 2 Mom Sale in one indoor area 150 tables/booth of gently used baby/children’s clothing, toys, baby gear, furniture, and maternity clothing all at garage sale-style prices. Casino Bus Trip Fundraiser

SWARTZ CREEK — Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day, Luck of the Irish Casino Bus Trip Fundraiser will depart for Firekeepers Casino Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s (4413 Morrish Rd.) and return at 5 p.m. Cost is $40 per person and includes $20 in gaming and $5 in food.

Proceeds go to the food pantries of St. Mary’s Queen of Angels and St. Johns Davison in honor of An Gorta Mor (the Irish potato famine) for Hunger Awareness month. Many games and prizes during the trip, so wear your green and join us for a day of fun! Presented by the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Inc. (LAOH). FLINT — Would you like to join other crafters using your skills to give back to your community? Flint Handmade Gives Back: Crafting for Charity, hosted by The Local Grocer, 601 Martin L. King Ave. A quarterly event supporting local charities: Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m. (event to be announced), and Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 5:30 p.m. (Making Cards for Hurley Kids). Creatives, couples, friends and family are invited to join us for a fun evening of giving back to the community! All supplies are provided. Appropriate for ages 10 and up.
