Canning 101

FLINT — Applewood hosts a learn to can seminar on Oct. 4 from 12–1 p.m. at the Applewood Estate, 1400 E. Kearsley Street. Join Ruth Mott Foundation staff members for a mini lesson in canning produce. We will talk about the basics of canning as a way to preserve vegetables and fruit for future consumption. Travel back in time with a list of what the Motts canned or froze utilizing Applewood’s bounty of produce. FOX 66 Health Expo 2019

Fall Cooking with Kids classes

FLINT — Classes will take place at the Flint Children’s Museum. Preregistration is required for this free, hands-on program which teaches families to make healthy food choices while learning to cook fresh, affordable recipes from diverse cultural traditions. Free breast cancer screenings

FLINT — Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute (GHCI) will conduct free breast cancer screenings Oct. 17 from 5-7 p.m. at GHCI, 302 Kensington Avenue. The screenings are open to anyone of any age and no appointment or pre-registration is necessary. Simply walk in and you will see a physician who will conduct the exam.
