United Way extends interim executive director post

FLINT — With the United Way of Genesee County of track to reverse a trend of declining donations, the agency’s Board of Trustees recently voted to extend Jerry W. Leman’s term as interim executive director of the agency.

Leman, a long-time General Motors executive and community activist, has served as interim executive director since last May. The United Way board agreed to extend his contract through December 2012. The United Way Board plans to form a search committee in October and start the search for a permanent executive director in January 2013.

Last year, the United Way board set a goal to raise $2.8 million in the 2011 campaign. United Way staff and volunteers later set a stretch goal of $2.9 million. To date, the agency is on track to surpass the $2.6 million raised a year ago.

Donations to the United Way of Genesee County can be made at www.unitedwaygenesee.org or mail checks to the United Way of Genesee County, P.O. Box 949, Flint, MI 48501. — G.G.
