Board amends budgets at meeting

FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Board of Trustees amended the township’s general fund and street fund budgets at its Monday meeting.

Controller Beth Takacs submitted the following amendments:

General Fund Fire Department: $73,200 added to expenditures for PA 345 retirement. The actuarial valuation received in March 2019 required a higher employer contribution rate than projected for 2019.

General Fund Insurances: $25,000 added to the expenditures for liability insurance. The township had to pay two deductibles of $25,000 each in 2019 for lawsuits, but only one was budgeted for.

Municipal Street Fund: $5,500 added to expenditures for engineering services. — J.J.

29th annual Community Holiday Dinner

FLINT — The Genesee County Bar Foundation and Genesee County Bar Association’s 29th Annual Community Holiday Dinner is today (Dec. 19) from 4-7 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 755 S. Saginaw St., downtown Flint. The free dinner will feature a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Children will have their photographs taken with Santa Claus and receive a small gift and book. No reservations necessary. Musical entertainment provided.

GDL announces honorees for 19th annual Black History Month brunch

FLINT — The Genesee District Library (GDL) has announced the honorees for the 19th Annual Black History Month Brunch to be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the Genesys Conference & Banquet Center in Grand Blanc.

Each year the GDL honors people who are making a positive difference in the community. The Award of Excellence will be presented to Ms. Melinda Anderson, Mr. Recco Richardson and Mayor Karen Weaver. The Partner in Progress Award will go to Ivy House, which serves the economically disadvantaged in the areas of education, health, family and civic responsibility.

The brunch will feature gospel singer and Stellar Award Winner Casey J from Atlanta, Georgia.

Part of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Genesee District Library’s Summer Reading Challenge for kids and teens.
