St. Paul’s Flint features Music in the Heart of the City

FLINT — An organ recital, “A Russian Journey” will be presented on Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. by internationally renowned concert organist and recording artist Gail Archer at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 711 Saginaw Street. With over 80 ranks of pipes the Dalton Memorial Organ at the church will produce wonderful music under Archer’s superb musicianship and masterly technique. The program will include works by César Cui, Sergei Lyapunov, Alexander Glazunov and Sergey Slonimsky. Archer is a noted recording artist and has released albums on the Meyer Media label. As one of the few female organists in a male-dominated field, she serves as an advocate for female organists and composers. According to the New York Times, she plays with “a sense of vulnerability and awe.” Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. — P.S.

Fenton Polar Plunge

FENTON — The Fenton Moose Lodge, 2245 Sonora Drive, once again hosts an area-wide Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics Michigan on Feb. 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This super fun event features fearless and brave fundraisers who brave the icy waters of Lake Fenton for a great cause! Registration 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. with the Plunge immediately following. The After Splash Bash starts following the last plunger. Plungers must raise a minimum of $75 to receive the 2020 Polar Plunge Event T-shirt. Individuals on a team need to average $75 per person to receive the T-shirt.
