C-A to host musical ensembles

FLINT TWP. — Ensembles from 11 school districts will assemble this weekend at Carman- Ainsworth High School for a Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association music festival.

A total of 23 ensembles will perform Friday and Saturday during the MSBOA District III Band & Orchestra Festival. This is the first week of competition, with additional festivals scheduled in the area through early March.

The ensembles perform three musical selections and do one sight reading. Each performance is evaluated by three judges and one sight-reading judge.

Ensembles are rated on a scale from 1 to 5 with 1 being the highest rating possible. The overall score is computed using a formula which combines the ratings of each judge. Ensembles that earn an overall 1 rating or “Superior” are qualified for State Band & Orchestra Festival at the end of April.

The schools performing this weekend include: Atherton, Bendle, Carman-Ainsworth, Croswell- Lexington, Goodrich, Imlay City, Kingston, Lakeville, Linden, Powers Catholic and St. John Vianney. — G.G.

C-A Band Booster host fundraiser

FLINT TWP. — The Carman-Ainsworth Band and Orchestra Boosters will have a fundraiser from 4-8 p.m. March 4, at Chipotle, 4485 Miller Road, Flint. Chipotle will donate 33 percent of proceeds to the boosters. Tell the cashier or download a flyer at www.cabandsorch.org/. G.G.

Easter Eggs hunt scheduled for March 28

FLINT TWP. — The 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Flint Township Economic Development Authority will be held March 28 at 10 a.m. in the Flint Township Park, 5200 Norko Dr. The township is seeking donations from the public and businesses who would like to be part of this family event.

The EDC welcomes prizes, gift baskets, candy, gift certificates, monetary donations, etc. In addition to the Easter Egg Hunt there will also be a visit by the Easter Bunny and prizes. Details: Call 810-252-2049. — G.G.

VFW serves up dinner

FLINT TWP. — The Swartz Creek VFW Post, 3131 Elms Road, serves homestyle meals Monday nights, and burgers Wednesday nights, from 4:30-7 p.m. Fish fries take place Fridays. — L.R.

Flint Symphonic Wind Ensemble concert

FLUSHING — The Flint Symphonic Wind Ensemble will be hosting its next concert on Feb. 23 at Mayfair Bible Church in Flushing. The 50-piece symphony band, under the direction of Mr. Chris Anderson, will play notable compositions such as “An American in Paris” and music from “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Les Miserables.” The show will start at 3 p.m. Admission is free and parking is convenient and ample.
