Poppy sale drive-thru at American Legion

DAVISON TWP. — American Legion Post 267, 10309 Davison Rd., will hold a Poppy Drive-Thru today and tomorrow, June 17-18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the post hall.

Led by the American Legion Auxiliary, each year members of The American Legion Family distribute poppies with a request that the person receiving the flower make a donation to support the future of veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families with medical and financial needs.

Poppy Day is celebrated in countries around the world. The American Legion brought National Poppy Day® to the United States by asking Congress to designate the Friday before Memorial Day, as National Poppy Day.

Wear a red poppy to honor the fallen and support the living who have worn our nation’s uniform. — G.G.

VFW Auxiliary to hold rummage sale July 10

DAVISON TWP. — Davison Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary will be holding a Rummage/Craft/Yard Sale on July 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All proceeds will go toward paving the VFW Parking lot. You can rent a table for $10 to sell your items or donate items for the Auxiliary to sell. The auxiliary will also conduct a Freedom Festival. The sale takes place at the VFW Post, 8031 E. Davison Market’s All-Day Craft Show Ready. Set. Summer!

DAVISON TWP. — On June 19, the market is hosting an all-day Summer Craft Show. Local artisans will be displaying their one-of-kind designs and creations. Also, local farmers will have on hand their freshest garden produce, meats, cheeses and florals.

Come enjoy a sun-sational day at the Davison Farmers Market with its many sights and scents of the summer season. The Davison Farmers Market is open year-round, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Trinity Lutheran to hold concert series with food truck dining

DAVISON — The Ladies Guild at Trinity Lutheran Church will hold a Free Music for the Community concert series at the church, located at 706 W. Flint St.

Organizers are planning to have food trucks there as well.

Concerts will be held monthly throughout the summer. No alcohol please, and the church asks those attending to bring their own lawn chairs. There will be porta potties on site.

The church has a large pavilion and grounds. All concerts are the first Wednesday of the month from 5-7 p.m. on church grounds.

July 7 – Blues Summit Trio with Julius and Eddy Blues Barney Blues music

Aug. 4 – Sweet Seasons with Zac, cover music.

Motorcycle rally fundraiser to be held June 19

FLUSHING — Motorcycle riders are encouraged to participate in the Rally for Lorelai fundraiser ride this Saturday at 11 a.m. Riders will meet up starting at 9 a.m. at Central Elementary School on 525 Coutant Street in Flushing. The rally will begin at 11 a.m. in Flushing and end at Clover Beach on 15349 Linden Road in Linden. A hot dog lunch will be served at noon and there will also be a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds will go to Lorelai, who is battling Medulloblastoma brain cancer, and her family. Cars are welcome in the rally as well. — B.G.

Rummage sale

FLUSHING — Flushing United Methodist Church, 413 E. Main St., will hold a rummage sale on Friday, June 18, from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. and Saturday, June 19, from 9 a.m.-noon., sponsored by Flushing United Methodist Women. There will be something for everyone and treasures for every shopper. — B.G.

Free food distribution

FLUSHING — New Life Church in Flushing Township will be holding a free food distribution on June 21 from 5-6:30 p.m. (or until all the food is gone). New Life’s food distribution will continue on the third Monday of each month from 5-6:30 p.m. at the church’s location on 8290 Carpenter Rd. at the corner of Carpenter and Deland roads, west of Flushing Middle School. Creekwood Dental to hold food distribution June 26

BURTON — Creekwood Dental will hold a mobile food pantry June 26, from 1-3 p.m. for anyone who needs food. The event will be held in the Creekwood Dental Parking lot, 1080 Creekwood Trail, in Burton.

This is for anyone who needs food. If you are someone you know needs food, stop by. The Mobile Food Pantry is on the fourth Saturday of each month.

Burton Rotary to hold Music in the Park July 15

BURTON — The Burton Rotary Club will sponsor Music in the Park, July 15 from 6-8 p.m. at the City of Burton Pavilion, 4090 Manor Dr.

Parks and Recreation commissioner to be replaced

BURTON — The Burton Parks and Recreation Commission voted to remove commissioner William Owens from his seat on the board after he missed almost two years of meetings, according to Amy Clous, director of parks and recreation.

Clous and Commission President Jeremy Scharrer said there have been attempts to contact Owens “multiple times” to remind him of meetings, both virtual (during COVID-19) and in-person, and he has not attended.

The vote was unanimous to remove, except for Commissioner Greg Hull who abstained.

Clous said she would contact and inform him that he was removed and then she would post the position.
