Fly tiers to hold class

FLINT — The Greater Flint Muddler Minnows, a nonprofit club for fly tiers in and around Genesee County, will hold a fly tying class April 23, 30 and May 7. The class will be held at Blackstones Pub and Grill, 531 S. Saginaw St. in downtown Flint from 6-8 p.m. on class dates.

Attendees will learn to tie a Nuke Egg, Green Caddis, Wooly Bugger, Wooly Worm and Ant. The Club will make available all materials, hooks and tying vices and tools for use on class nights.

The cost of the class is $50 per person for adults and $25 per person for those under 18 when accompanied by an adult. The fee includes a one-year membership in the GFMM.

The class is limited to 10 students. To register for the class, please visit the GFMM web site, and see Upcoming Events. A $25 deposit is required.

The GFMM meets the first Wednesday of the month from September to June at Gander Mountain on Linden Road from 7-9 p.m. Meetings are open to the public at no charge.

Kidney support group

FLINT — The Educational Kidney Cancer Support Group will meet April 18 from 1:30- 3:30 p.m. at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, 302 Kensington, off of Robert T. Longway Blvd. Julia Herzog, Program Coordinator, National Kidney Foundation of Michigan will speak on “Finding Yourself When All Seems Lost. Julia’s Medical Journey.”

McLaren offers smoking cessation support group

FLINT — McLaren’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is offering a free Smoking Cessation Support Group the second Monday of every month.

Smoking Cessation Support Group will meet the second Monday of every month, 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the McLaren Medical Education Building, G-3230 Beecher Rd. (behind Beech Hill Centre), Lower Level-Conference Room A. There is no cost.

Swarbrick to hold book signing event

GRAND BLANC TWP. — The David E. Swarbrick Book Signing Event will be held April 21 at 8 p.m. at The Three G’s Lounge, 5545 S. Saginaw Rd.

Swarbrick, a resident of Flint, will be available to sign copies of his book, Happy Root Beer: The Story of Friendship.

David’s Band, “A Sacred Circle” will also be playing that night and paying tribute to the recent loss of their wonderful fun loving friend, Frank “the Tank” Harvath.

Join author David Swarbrick in helping Mr. Root Beer find a new friend to help overcome his loneliness. — G.G.
