Davison Odd Fellows to host swiss steak dinner Jan. 23

DAVISON TWP. — The Davison Odd Fellows and Rebekah’s will hold a Swiss Steak and Chicken Dinner, Jan. 23 from 11:30 a.m.=1:30 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall, 2134 N. Irish Rd.

The cost is $12 per adult and $7 for children under 12. Preschool is free. Take out is available. — G.G. Board makes appointments to standing committees

DAVISON TWP. — The Davison Township Board of Trustees made appointments to the township’s standing boards and committees at its Jan. 10 meeting.

The board appointed John Allen, Jackie Hoist and Carol Dowsett to the planning commission for terms ended Dec. 31, 2024.

Also appointed were Treasurer Tim Green and Nancy Davis to the zoning board of appeals with terms ending Dec. 31, 2024.

Green was also appointed to the Davison-Richfield Area Fire Authority for a term ending Dec. 31, 2024.

Trustee Matt Karr was appointed to serve on the Genesee County Metropolitan Alliance to a term ending Dec. 31, 2023. — G.G. Police help with contributions to community

DAVISON TWP. — Officers with the Davison Township Police Department raised $1,420 from its No Shave November benefit to Outreach East.

Officers from the department also helped the Davison High School Key Club with a food drive at Meijer where they helped collect 781 pounds of food; 10 $10 Meijer cards and $319.92 in cash for a total contribution of $2,628.02. — G.G.

City seeking volunteers for boards and commissions

DAVISON — City Manager Andrea Schroeder announced at the Jan. 10 city council meeting the city is seeking applicants to serve on various boards and committees.

All applicants must be city residents.

Trinity Lutheran Church adds new services

DAVISON — Trinity Lutheran Church, 706 W. Flint St, is now offering a mid-week Wednesday evening service in addition to their Sunday, 9:15 a.m. services. There is also a service Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. for those who cannot attend on Sundays. All are welcome. You don’t have to be a member. — G.G.

Officers promoted to rank of sergeant

FLUSHING — The Flushing City Police Department has promoted officers Scott Matzke and Eric Earns to the rank of sergeant. The promotions will provide for the replacement of Det. Sgt. Steve Colosky as he assumes the duties of Acting Chief of Police following the retirement of current Chief Mark Hoornstra on Jan. 28.

Matzke was hired as a part-time officer in February 1998 and promoted to full-time in August 1998. Earns, who was also hired part-time in September 1998, was promoted to full-time in February 1999. Matzke was the recipient of a life-saving award and unit citation from the department in 2021, while Earns received a professional excellence award last year. — B.G.

Scharrer, Craig to lead parks and rec in 2022

BURTON — Burton Parks and Recreation commissioners Jeremy Scharrer and Jim Craig will lead the commission during the coming year.

Scharrer was appointed to a second term as chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, while Craig will remain as vice chairman in 2022. — G.G.

Sneller to hold coffee hours

BURTON — State Rep. Tim Sneller (D-50th District) will hold Coffee Hours at the Burton Senior Center, 3410 S. Grand Traverse St., on Jan. 28 from 1-2:30 p.m.

Sneller represents Burton, Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc Township and Mundy Township.

Hot Wheels exhibit at Sloan Museum at Courtland Center

BURTON — Hot Wheels™: Race to Win™ – an exhibit featuring iconic Hot Wheels® die-cast cars, orange track, and authentic racing objects, will be at the Sloan Museum at Courtland Center, 4190 E. Court St. from Feb. 5-May 15; Tuesday-Saturday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday noon-5 p.m.; and closed Mondays.

This new family exhibit will get you revved up with immersive activities for three generations of Hot Wheels® fans.

There is something for mom, dad, grandparents and, of course, today’s youngest Hot Wheels fans as visitors learn about the science, technology, engineering, and math that goes into making cars go faster.

Hot Wheels: Race to Win will make a pit stop on Feb. 5, at Sloan Museum at Courtland Center. The exhibition will be on display through May 15, before it continues on its tour throughout North America.

Tickets to see the exhibit and the rest of the museum are $9 adults, $8 seniors 60+, and $7 youth ages 2-11.
