Genealogy research trip planned

FLINT — The Flint Genealogical Society sponsored genealogy research trip to the Allen County Public Library in Ft. Wayne, IN has a few seats left for the trip on April 24-25. The bus leaves Flint at 7 a.m. on April 24 and returns about midnight on April 25. The cost is $35 for bus fare for society members, $40 bus fare for non-society members. Kidney Cancer support group

FLINT — The details for the May 23 Kidney Cancer Support Group meeting at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute are being finalized, but here are some important details. From 1:30- 3:30 p.m. at GHCI ,302 Kensington Ave. off Robert T. Longway Blvd., two cancer survivors will come. Tami Boehmer — author, blogger, public speaker and breast cancer survivor — has written “From Incurable To Incredible” _ cancer survivors who beat the odds and Dr. Mark Roby, a liver cancer survivor is returning. The meeting is open to all cancer patients whether in remission or undergoing treatment at GHCI. They are from Hurley Hospital or Genesys Hospital only. McLaren offers smoking cessation support group

FLINT — McLaren’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is offering a free Smoking Cessation Support Group the second Monday of every month. The support group can benefit anyone who is struggling to give up those last few cigarettes but does want to quit; is smoke free but feeling vulnerable for relapse; is in the process of quitting and having trouble managing stress, or is a former smoker who is willing to share their story.

Smoking Cessation Support Group will meet the second Monday of every month, 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the McLaren Medical Education Building, G-3230 Beecher Rd. (behind Beech Hill Centre), Lower Level-Conference Room A. There is no cost.

David E. Swarbrick book signing event

GRAND BLANC TWP. — A book signing event will be held April 21 at 8 p.m. at The Three G’s Lounge, 5545 S. Saginaw Rd., Grand Blanc Township, for local author David E. Swarbrick.

Swarbrick, a resident of Flint, will be available to sign copies of his book, Happy Root Beer: The Story of Friendship. Swarbrick’s Band, “A Sacred Circle” will also be playing that night and paying tribute to the recent loss of their wonderful fun loving friend, Frank “the Tank” Harvath. — G.G.
