Genealogical Society to hold banquet
FLINT — The annual Flint Genealogical Society banquet will be June 5 at 6 p.m. at the Flint Masonic Temple on S. Saginaw St. Tickets are $15 each and must be purchased before the banquet.
Curt B. Witcher, Genealogy Center Manager at the Allen County Public Library in Ft. Wayne, IN, will be the featured speaker. He has worked at the Allen County Library for more than 30 years and is extremely knowledgeable about genealogy.
Witcher’s special interests are in U.S. local history, migration history and settlement patterns, African American research, FirstNations/Native American research, and preserving living history.

Kidney Cancer support group to meet May 23
FLINT — The Kidney Cancer Support Group meeting at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute will be May 23, from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at GHCI ,302 Kensington Ave. off Robert T. Longway Blvd. Two cancer survivors will come. Tami Boehmer — author, blogger, public speaker and breast cancer survivor — has written “From Incurable To Incredible” _cancer survivors who beat the odds and Dr. Mark Roby, a liver cancer survivor is returning. The meeting is open to all cancer patients whether in remission or undergoing treatment at GHCI. They are from Hurley Hospital or Genesys Hospital only. Recent weather inspires MCC to offer Family Preparedness Course
FENTON — With a year of extreme weather under way, Mott Community College’s Institute for Medical Simulation is offering a Family Emergency Preparedness Course to help families prepare for the challenges of weather and other emergencies.
The three-hour program will be offered on May 22 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Mott Community College’s Southern Lakes Branch Center, 2100 West Thompson Rd. in Fenton. The cost is $89 a person and includes an emergency kit worth $59.
“In a disaster, it might be several hours or days before vital services are restored,” said Cindy Sanders, Director of the MCC Institute for Medical Simulation. “This course will provide your family with the information and tools that you will need to survive an emergency or disaster.”
