More tent sales coming next month and beyond
FLINT TWP.— Several tent sales have won approval from the township board.
At its May 7 meeting, the board gave the green light to Vehicle City Harley-Davidson, 2400 Austins Parkway and ABC Warehouse, 4247 Miller Rd., to hold tent sales in June.
At its May 21 meeting, the board approved applications from Carlson’s Greenhouse to hold a fireworks tent sale, Harbor Freight Tools to hold periodic sales all summer and Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Church to hold its annual outdoor Mid-east Festival.
The Vehicle City sale will be held June 14-17 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thurs.-Sat. and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The purpose of the sale is to host an outdoor open house.
ABC Warehouse will hold its annual parking lot sale June 17- 23 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Carlson’s Greenhouse of Fenton received permission to sell fireworks in a tent on a vacant lot at 4056 Miller Road. Sales will be held from noon to 9 p.m. June 23-29 and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 30 – July 5. Some questions were raised about allowing outside businesses to compete with permanent township businesses that also sell fireworks. The board approved the application 6 to 1 with Treasurer Sandra Wright voting no.
Harbor Freight Tools, 4333 Miller Road, received approval to hold tent sales until late fall. The first sale will be June 8-10 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Future dates will be announced for sales in August, September October and November.
The Our Lady of Lebanon festival on the church grounds at 4133 Calkins Road, will be held July-17 from 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday, noon to midnight on Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday. They also received permission for a fireworks show and a beer tent.— R.S.
C-A student fifth overall at national meet
FLINT TWP. — Gymnast Brittany Aragon was told her season was over when she dislocated her elbow in January, but one month later the resilient teen was back in the gym, said her father Freddy Aragon of Burton. Brittany, an 11th-grader at Carman-Ainsworth High School, went on to compete at the state level, finishing 5th all around and earning a slot on the national team, her dad said. At the 2012 Women’s Junior Olympics National Championship competition in Virginia May 11-13, Brittany finished 8th for her floor routine and her team took 2nd place in their division. Brittany is a member of Gedderts Twistars in Lansing and has already secured a full-ride scholarship on the gymnastics team at Western Michigan University after she finishes high school next year.— R.S.
Ballenger Highway section to be resurfaced
FLINT TWP. —The Genesee County Road Commission will be resurfacing Ballenger Highway from Flushing Road to Sunset Drive in Flint Township near the vicinity of McLaren Hospital, starting Tuesday, May 29. Traffic will be maintained via lane closures and lane shifts, with an initial closure of the outside lanes. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution and allow themselves additional time to reach their destinations. The anticipated completion date is August 17, 2012. —R.S.
