Tapco Group partners with Habitat for Humanity
FLINT — In just one week, a brand new affordable home will be built for a hardworking Flint family as the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity, professional home builder volunteers and building material donors including the Wixom, MI-based Tapco Group® come together this week.
The Flint home is part of a national Habitat for Humanity Home Builders Blitz goal to build 250 homes across 25 states. The goal for this sustainable, energy-efficient home is to be among the first Energy Star 3.0 rated homes in the Midwest. Envy Homes and Obertein Construction are leading the Flint Blitz build, with many more local building professionals volunteering skilled labor for all facets of the rapid-fire project.
In a survey of Habitat homeowners, prior to buying their affordable Habitat home, just 31 percent took part in “green” efforts; the number rose to 71 percent once the owners moved into their homes.
Nationally, the Builders Blitz will bring the total to more than 1,000 houses built or renovated through a trio of national Habitat Home Builders Blitz events. In 2006, 722 homes were completed in the inaugural event, and 263 homes in 2008.
