UM-Flint holding vocal camp
FLINT — For the 29th summer, the University of Michigan-Flint will present an intensive, twoweek performing arts camp for area junior (grades 5-8) and senior (grades 9-12) students.
The Summer Vocal Academy of Music (SVAM) will take place July 9–20 for the Junior Academy and July 23–Aug. 3 for the Senior Academy, with classes held on the UM-Flint campus Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m. The registration fee is $155.
The Summer Vocal Academy provides a unique opportunity for middle- and high-school students to receive focused instruction in vocal music, as well as artistic and performance experiences that will enrich, expand, and compliment their skill sets. Trained instructors, including UMFlint faculty, teach all courses, and students will perform a final concert at the end of each academy.
Classes offered include: Academy Choir (meeting twice a day); Men’s/Women’s Ensemble (Senior Academy); Dance and Movement; Vocal Techniques Class; Music Theory (Senior Academy); Art (Junior Academy); World Percussion (Junior Academy); Steel Drum and Percussion (Senior).

Kidney Cancer support group to meet June 13
FLINT — The Kidney Cancer Educational Support Group will meet June 13 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, 302 Kensington Ave. Featured Speaker: Bob Giffel, Executive Director, Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute. Area women invited to Great Balls of Fire event
BURTON — Area women are invited to join Camo and Lace for a night of stargazing, food and sitting around the bonfire at “Great Balls of Fire”, on June 9, 2388 N. Belsay Rd., at 8 p.m.
Camo and Lace is a woman’s group that encourages females to get involved in outdoor sports and activities. Richard Walker, Specialist at Longway Planetarium, will be on hand to discuss some of the “Great Balls of Fire” in our night sky.
Campfire food and desserts will be supplied. The event will take place even if rain is in the forecast. Participants should bring their own chairs, flashlights and bug spray. There is a fee for the event and registration is requested; further details follow. Members are $2 and guests $5
