40th Annual Sloan Museum Auto Fair June 23-24

FLINT — The 40th Annual Sloan Museum Auto Fair is a fun-filled, two-day show with music, exhibits, activities for kids, food vendors, entertainment, swap meet, craft vendors, food vendors, vehicles for sale, and of course, automobiles.

The Flint Cultural Center campus becomes home to more than 700 of the best looking cars, trucks, and motorcycles around.

New this year, on Friday night, there will be a Cruise-In at The Hot Dog Stand in Grand Blanc from 5-8 p.m. Cruise-In participants need not be registered for the Sloan Museum Auto Fair. Parking will be at The Hot Dog Stand and in the huge Physicians Park, located behind The Hot Dog Stand.

UM-Flint presents summer vocal camp

FLINT — For the 29th summer, the University of Michigan-Flint will present an intensive, two-week performing arts camp for area junior (grades 5-8) and senior (grades 9- 12) students.

The Summer Vocal Academy of Music (SVAM) will take place July 9–20 for the Junior Academy and July 23–Aug. 3 for the Senior Academy, with classes held on the UM-Flint campus Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m. The registration fee is $155.

Classes offered include: Academy Choir (meeting twice a day); Men’s/Women’s Ensemble (Senior Academy); Dance and Movement; Vocal Techniques Class; Music Theory (Senior Academy); Art (Junior Academy); World Percussion (Junior Academy); Steel Drum and Percussion (Senior).

New officers installed

FLINT — The Flint Genealogical Society has installed officers for the years 2012-2014. They are President — Jim Newman; Vice President — Della Gamalski; Secretary — Norma Winters; Treasurer — Pam Smith; Trustees — Marlo Davidson and Jim Thornton; Returning Trustees — Dan Pozarek and Lois Revenaugh.

The next meeting of the Society will be Sept. 4. Announcements will be made later regarding speaker and place.

Free car seat check at Hurley Eastside Clinic

FLINT — On June 23, Hurley Medical Center, Safe Kids and Health Plus are hosting a Safe Kids Car Seat Check at Hurley’s Eastside Campus on Longway Blvd in Flint, featuring free Car seat Checks, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

This car seat check is open to the public and is free of charge. Families are served on a first come first serve basis. It is advised that the vehicle and child both be present for the most comprehensive service.
