Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce launches speakers bureau
FLINT — The Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce announced the formation of a Speakers Bureau as part of its community outreach efforts.
The primary goals of the Speakers Bureau are to provide information on available programs and services; promote positive news happening in the community; increase the visibility of our work in the community; report the organization’s performance results; and communicate how the public can get involved in revitalizing the Flint-Genesee region.
According to CEO Tim Herman, the new Speakers Bureau is yet another way that the Regional Chamber looks to engage the community.
“We have launched a concerted effort to reach out and connect members of the community with opportunities such as training, jobs, education and entrepreneurial” said Herman. “The Speakers Bureau is part of that effort and serves as a convenient process for groups that invite us to speak.”
The Speakers Bureau provides Genesee Regional Chamber staff as speakers on topics including business services, economic development, employer and youth education, reinvention of Flint and Genesee County, government contracting, business and community engagement (how to get involved), and tourism and business networking. Genesee Regional Chamber leadership and staff are available to speak to non-profit, professional, educational, business and civic or trade organizations.
Ross Medical Education Center launches its first “Build-ABackpack” drive
DAVISON — While back-to-school is the last thing on kids’ minds right now parents are prepared to take local retailers by storm with the latest school supply list. Yet they’re doing so with an eye toward the bottom line.
The June 2012 BIGInsight™, Monthly Consumer Survey, reported that 80.4 percent of people with schoolaged children plan to curb this year’s school supply spending due to the current economic climate.
While parents may have the best intentions, they were still set to spend approximately $603.63 on school supplies clothes, shoes and electronics in 2011, according to BIGresearch’s Survey (July 2011).
If you’d like to donate to the RMEC Build-A-Backpack Drive can drop off the items at their local campus Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. The Ross Center in Genesee County is at 815 S. State Rd., Davison. — G.G.
