Shared services report on way

FLINT TWP.— Results of a Shared Municipal Services study tentatively will be presented at the Sept.17 township board meeting, Township Supervisor Karyn Miller reported to the board last week. She said board members would receive copies of the report by the end of last week to allow time for them to read it before the formal presentation. The report will look at ways of cutting expenses including the possibility of combining police and fire services with the City of Swartz Creek and Mundy Township. All three municipalities paid for the study. —R.S.

CA Open Houses scheduled

FLINT TWP. — Carman-Ainsworth students return to school Tuesday and open houses have been planned for coming weeks.

The high school open house will begin at 530 p.m. Sept. 6. Dillon Elementary also will host its open house on the same day at 6 p.m.

On Sept. 11, open houses will be held at Dye Elementary and Randels Elementary, both beginning at 6 p.m. CA Middle School will hold its open house at 6 p.m. Sept. 13. — R.S.

HandsOn Genesee Volunteer Expo 2012 registration opens

FLINT — HandsOn Genesee, the volunteer center for Genesee County, brings its annual Volunteer Expo to the University of Michigan-Flint campus again this fall in conjunction with UM-Flint’s University Outreach.

Registration is now open for nonprofit organizations that rely on volunteers to accomplish their mission. Booths are available for more than 35 charity and nonprofit groups to recruit new volunteers from the hundreds of visitors expected to attend.

The cost of a booth ranges from free to $100 depending on the budget of the registering organization. The Volunteer Expo is free and open to the public. It takes place from 3-7 p.m., Oct. 11 at UMFlint’s University Center which is located next to the Recreation Center.

Craft Show to be held in Durand on Sept. 1

DURAND — The 2012 Holiday Shores Craft Show and Marketplace will be held Sept. 1, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Holiday Meadows Golf Course, which is located north of Durand at 10915 Goodall Road. The golf course is one mile west of M-13. more than 30 vendors are expected to attend the event and display their merchandise. — A.P.

Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser at senior center

SWARTZ CREEK — A Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser will be held at the Swartz Creek Senior Citizen Center, 8095 Civic Dr. on Sept. 15 from 8-10 a.m. Enjoy pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, orange juice, & coffee. Help raise money for the Swartz Creek Senior Center. Invite your friends of all ages. The cost is $5 per person.
