Kidney cancer support group is back
FLINT — The next meeting of the Kidney Cancer Educational Support Group will be Sept. 12 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, 302 Kensington Ave. Flint. (off Robert T. Longway Blvd.-Between I- 475 & Dort Hwy.) Featured Speaker: Shahin Ip, program manager of Gilda’s club of Metro Detroit. Topic: “Services Available at Gilda’s Club for Cancer Survivors.”
The club is an affiliate of the Cancer Support Community and has more than 70 volunteers. The meeting is open to the general public.

Reunion with a Cause rescheduled for Sept. 23
GRAND BLANC — Reunion with a Cause, an annual fundraising event for Genesys cancer patients, has been rescheduled. The new date and time is: Sept. 23 from 4-8 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church, 15010 N. Holly Rd. in Holly (the churches are next door to each other).
Festivities include: a cancer survivors’ celebration, entertainment, kids’ games, auctions, raffles and a luminary ceremony in memory of those who lost their fight against cancer.
Genesys, in partnership with the Holly community, sponsors this event outdoors every year at the Holly High School track. The original event in August was cancelled because of extreme weather conditions.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from Reunion with a Cause go to help Genesys cancer patients with special financial needs.
This money is used to help Genesys cancer patients with physical and emotional needs during treatment, such as medication not covered by insurance, medical equipment, rental equipment, private pay aides, transportation to and from cancer treatments, and other special needs not covered by insurance.

Auditions planned for The Hundred Dresses
FLINT — Flint Youth Theatre announces open auditions and technical interviews for The Hundred Dresses. Written by Mary Hall Surface and based on the Newbery Honor Book by Eleanor Estes, The Hundred Dresses will be directed by FYT’s Executive Artistic Director, Jeremy Winchester and performed on the FYT stage Oct. 19-Nov. 4.
FYT is looking for four girls and three boys, about middle school-aged in appearance, for this period tale of friendship and bullying.
Open to all students grades 7 to 12. The Flint Youth Theatre is at 1220 E. Kearsley St. in Flint. Auditions are Sept. 10, 6-9:30 p.m. with call-backs Sept. 11, 6-9:30 p.m. Tech Interviews will be held Sept. 10, 6-9:30 p.m.
Performances are: Oct. 19-20 at 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 21 at 2:30 p.m.; Oct. 24-25, 10 a.m. -12 p.m.; Oct. 26-27 at 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 28, 2:30 p.m.; Oct. 31, 10 a.m. & 12 p.m.; Nov. 1, 10 a.m .& 12 p.m.; Nov. 2-3, 7:30 p.m.; and Nov. 3-4, 2:30 p.m. — G.G.
