Halloween costume rentals

FLINT TWP. — The Flint Community Players annual Halloween Costume Shop will be open this Friday-Sunday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and again during the same hours from Oct. 26-30. Hundreds of theater quality garments are available.

Absentee ballots in demand

FLINT TWP. — Township Clerk Kim Courts reports so far voters have requested more than 3,000 absentee ballots. More than 500 requests have come in on single day, she said. The ballots are available at the township hall during regular open hours, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m, Monday through Thursday. Courts also reminds voters that the lengthy ballot will have six state proposals and three local ones. She recommends getting a sample copy to study the proposals prior to going to vote on election day. Sample ballots can be obtained online at www.michigan.gov/elections.— R.S.

C-A earns good grade

FLINT TWP. — The Carman-Ainsworth School District received its second annual Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting issued by the Association of School Business Officials International. CA is one of 31 districts in the state to receive this recognition. The certificate is issued for the annual audit including a 27-page statistical section. — R.S.

Board special meeting for budget approval

FLINT TWP. — The township board of trustees will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 to approve its proposed $10.8 million budget for 2013. A public hearing for the budget was held this week to allow residents an opportunity to comment. After the budget approval meeting, the board will not meet again until Nov. 19. The regular first Monday meeting on Nov. 5 has been canceled due to preparations for the Nov. 6 general election.— R.S.

Ed board meeting moved

FLINT TWP. — The Carman-Ainsworth School Board will hold its next meeting on Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. It will be the only meeting in November. The regular first Tuesday meeting which falls on Nov. 6 has been canceled because it is the same day as the national general election. — R.S.

Book sale moves indoors

FLINT TWP. — The Friends of the Flint Township Library will host one of its occasional book sales from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 16-17 at the library, 2071 S Graham Rd, Proceeds will help with the purchase of new flooring.— R.S.

Trunk or treat at church

FLINT TWP. — A Trunk-or-Treat event will be held Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m. at United in Christ Lutheran Church, G-6330 Corunna Rd., between dye and Elms roads. There will be a drawing for Toys R Us Gift cards. — G.G.
