Kidney Cancer support group to meet

FLINT — The Kidney Cancer Educational Support Group will meet Nov. 14 at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, 302 Kensington.

The featured speaker is Darlene Brown, MS,MD, treatment option specialist, Fresenius Medical Care.

The topic is “Kidney Dialysis.” Meeting is open to the general public.

Athletic club offers aqua exercise for arthritis

GRAND BLANC TWP. — Genesys Athletic Club is teaming with the Arthritis Foundation to offer aqua exercise classes. Aqua exercise is designed specifically for people with arthritis and other related conditions. Instructors use gentle exercises to help increase joint flexibility and range of motion, maintain muscle strength, improve overall stamina and reduce pain caused by arthritis.

Classes are held in the warm therapy pool of Genesys Athletic Club where temperatures range from 86 degrees to 89 degrees. Arthritis Foundation certified instructors lead the classes, providing support and encouragement to help participants reach their goals and maintain wellness. A physician prescription is required to participate.

Classes take place on Tuesdays from 10-11 a.m.; Fridays from 11 a.m.-noon; and Saturdays from noon-1 p.m.

Coats for Kids celebrates 26th anniversary

GENESEE COUNTY — The Salvation Army, WJRT ABC12 and WIOG 102.5 FM Radio are celebrating 26 years of Coats for Kids. A new sponsor for 2012 is Blessing Company Plumbing & Heating of Grand Blanc and Fenton.

The goal of Coats for Kids is to collect new and gently used coats to help keep Genesee County children warm in the winter. Due to the generosity of the community, approximately 2,000 coats are collected and distributed each year to local children in an effort to protect them from the harsh winter weather.

Help keep a child warm this winter by donating a gently used or new coat before Nov. 9.

Salvation Army accepting requests for assistance

FLINT — The Salvation Army will be taking applications for Christmas assistance through Nov. 2 from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. for Genesee County residents.

Those in need of help with toys, food, and clothing for the holiday season will have the option of two locations to apply again this year.

The Salvation Army at 211 W. Kearsley Street in downtown Flint and The Salvation Army Beecher Corps located at 1475 W. Coldwater Road. No appointment needed.

The Salvation Army’s Christmas assistance program is intended to help those who would otherwise be unable to celebrate Christmas.
