Biz group hosting annual holiday fundraiser

FLINT TWP.— Fine jewelry and gift cards are among more than 60 items to be won at the 13th annual Holiday Scholarship Fundraiser hosted by the West Flint Business Association, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 12 in the meeting room at Teppanyaki Grill, G-3583 Miller Rd., in the Genesee Crossings plaza.

A $15 admission paid at the door covers the cost of lunch and two free prize tickets. Additional tickets will be sold at 2 for $5. You can win as many times as the number of tickets purchased. The top prize is pair of diamond earrings.

Proceeds will go toward scholarships presented in the spring to three deserving students in Genesee County.

Non-members are welcome to attend the fundraiser and no reservations are necessary. — R.S.

Donations sought for new school library

FLINT TWP.— Atlantis High School, which relocated in September to the former Woodland Elementary School, has set up its first-ever library. They are seeking donations of any books – new or used, hardcover or paperback – that are suitable for older middle school and high school students That includes novels, non-fiction and reference books.

Atlantis is an alternative high school but the library will also serve the Under Sixteen and Connect students at Woodland.

Book donations can be brought to Woodland School on Beveridge Road where donors will receive a tax receipt. —R.S.

Giving back

FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Fire Fighters Association announced on Nov. 21 they presented six families with a full turkey dinner and all the fixings to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day.

The Fire Fighters Association worked with the Carman- Ainsworth School District to find needy families in Flint Township. The turkey dinners were purchased through Thompson Creek Turkey Farm on Mill Road in Flint Township. This is the fifth year that the Fire Fighters Association has sponsored families with turkey dinners

The next event planned by the Fire Fighters Association is to help with The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign on Dec. 15. Fire Fighters will staff the Red Kettles in front of Sam’s Club on Corunna Road and Kroger on Dye and Corunna Road in Flint Township from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. — R.S.

Help to brighten the holidays for a Bendle or Carman-Ainsworth family

FLINT TWP.— Donations are being sought for the annual Bendle/Carman-Ainsworth Toy Giveaway. It differs from most holiday drives in that it asks families to bring in gently used items to give to others. These items are being collected at every C-A elementary school building. They will be cleaned and repaired before being given away on Dec. 6t at the Learning Community from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Families who live outside of the two districts are invited to participate from 5- 6 p.m. Details: Call 810-594-7208. — R.S..
