Gun expert to speak to business group

FLINT TWP.— Chuck Melki, a business/home security consultant and owner of Gabriel’s Pistol Range on Linden Road will be the guest speaker at the West Flint Business Association meeting from noon to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 16 in the community room at Teppanyaki Grill & Buffet on Miller Road. The public is invited and purchasing lunch is not required.

Melki, who also is the recently elected Gaines Township Supervisor, will discuss the latest development ins personal protection and also share his views on firearms legislation. Flint Township Supervisor Karyn Miller also will give a brief update on township issues. — R.S.

Car tent sale approved

FLINT TWP. — The Patsy Lou Williamson Megalot at Corunna and Linden Roads has received approval from the township board to hold a tent sale from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. January 17-23. The tent will be placed in the parking lot off Linden Road adjacent to the Mega-lot building. — R.S.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser to be held on January 19

SWARTZ CREEK — An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner with salad bar and desserts will be held at St. Mary Queen of Angels in Swartz Creek on January 19 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person or $25 for a family of 4 or more. There will also be a silent auction and raffle. The event is a fundraiser for the St. Vincent DePaul Ministry. For tickets, please call the parish office at 810-635-3240. — A.P.

Women’s Club and DDA announce winners of Christmas contest

SWARTZ CREEK — The GFWC Swartz Creek Women’s Club and the Swartz Creek Downtown Development Authority sponsored a Christmas decorating contest for businesses in Swartz this holiday season, and the first place and $50 prize went to Laser Florists.

Two additional $25 prizes were given to JT’s Restaurant and Optometrist Dr. Jim English.

Certificates and checks will be given to the winners at the next Swartz Creek Downtown Development Authority meeting on January 10 at 6 p.m. at the City Hall in Swartz Creek.

The judges for the Christmas decorating contest were Charles Evans, Jim Packer and Bruce Lanning. — A.P.

Dress sale to support Class of 2014

SWARTZ CREEK — The Special Occasion Dress Sale 2013, sponsored by the Class of 2014, will be held Jan. 12, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

This is a consignment sale for gently used “Special Occasion” dresses.

The cost to sell is $5 per dress and various prices are set by the sellers. The sale will take place in the Swartz Creek High School Media Center

Dresses must be dropped off by Jan. 11, in the High School Media Center from 3-7 p.m. All dresses are expected to be clean and in good condition.
