Driver error, winter roads don’t have to add up to accidents

GENESEE COUNTY — About 77 percent of accidents are due to driver error: Winter Conditions increase the risks. More awareness of car safety features can help beat the odds.

With driver error being a major factor in automobile accidents, winter road conditions only add to the problem. The automobile industry is heavily regulated in all matters of safety, but the vast majority of drivers don’t know how to make the most of their car’s safety features.

It’s important that drivers know their cars and learn how to handle their vehicles to minimize the risks posed by winter road conditions. An informed and aware driver means safer travels in winter driving conditions.

Winter driving involves unique techniques to deal with unique driving conditions. There are things drivers can do to prevent road accidents in the winter driving months. Knowing your car’s features and how to use them makes for a safer winter driving experience, for drivers and passengers.

The MOMS Club of Grand Blanc West and Swartz Creek is hosting a presentation on winter driving techniques and decoding your car’s safety features. This free event will be held on Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 9020 South Saginaw Rd. in Grand Blanc.

The MOMS Club® of Grand Blanc West and Swartz Creek is a local chapter of the International MOMS Club®. They are a support group for stay-athome mothers. The group holds monthly meetings with speakers, playgroups, field trips, MOMS Night Out, couples and family days, park days, a monthly newsletter, and service projects that benefit families and organizations in the community. — G.G.
