Skaff Save & Share Initiative raises $12,500 for area charities
GENESEE COUNTY — Skaff Furniture-Carpet One has announced their three-month Save & Share initiative, launched this past October, raised $12,500 for Carriage Town Ministries, The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and Whaley’s Children Center.
“We were thrilled with the support we received from the community,” said Dick Skaff, Skaff Furniture-Carpet One President. “Save & Share was one of those great situations where every person and every organization involved benefited.”
According to Skaff, the program required customers to go online at skaff.com and spend $50 to purchase a $150 Skaff Gift Certificate.
Skaff Furniture-Carpet One has been in business in Genesee County since 1911. The 70,000 squarefoot Skaff Warehouse/Showrooms are located at 23- Expressway and Hill Road. — G.G.
Wedding marketplace coming this weekend
GRAND BLANC — The Genesee County Bridal Alliance presents the second annual Wedding Marketplace, Jan. 20, at The Captains Club at Woodfield from 12-4 p.m.
The Wedding Marketplace features more than 40 of Genesee County’s premiere wedding vendors, including bridal fashions, photographers, caterers, event locators and much more.
The event is presentedby the Genesee County Bridal Alliance, a locally based non-profit organization formed by wedding professionals.
Event attendees will have a chance to win multiple prizes throughout the event, as well as two Grand Prizes.
The first will be a $1,000 wedding certificate for use with any GCBA vendor. The second will be up to $1,500 to be used on wedding bands from Medawar Jewelers and will be awarded to the winner of The Diamond Dash.
Tickets are $5 at the door or $3 if registering in advance. All proceeds from admission will be donated to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan for its Back Pack Program.

Genesee Valley Center to host online contest for Valentine’s Day
FLINT TWP. — Genesee Valley Center is offering a Valentine’s Day prize package valued at more than $325 to the individual who will best use the package to “Surprise Your Sweetheart”.
The prize package includes a $250 JB Robinson gift card, a $50 Bar Louie gift card and a Heartshaped cookie cake from Mrs. Fields, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
To qualify for the prize package, individuals age 18 and older can submit a brief essay about how you would “Surprise Your Sweetheart” with the prize package, via Genesee Valley Center’s Facebook page from Jan. 21-Feb. 1.
The shopping center’s Facebook fans will vote for their favorite essay Feb. 2-10. Based on the highest number of votes, one winner will be announced on Feb. 11 and the winner will receive the “Surprise Your Sweetheart” prize package.
