Work begins next week on I-75 ramps to eastbound I-69

FLINT TWP. — Orange barrels, detours and lane closures are coming next week for eastbound drivers on I-69 at the I-75 interchange The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced a $1 million investment to make improvements to the I-75 ramps to eastbound I-69. Slated to begin April 24, the first stage of the work will involve one lane closure on eastbound I-69 at night and also nighttime work on the westbound I-69 ramp to Bristol Road to prepare it as a detour route. Traffic will be maintained at Bristol and on the I-75 ramp to eastbound I-75 during this stage. In the second stage of construction, to begin in early May, work crews will close both the northbound and southbound I-75 ramps to eastbound I-69. Daytime work on the ramps will begin and traffic will be detoured and rerouted to westbound I-69, where motorists can take the Bristol Road exit back to eastbound I-69. Required nighttime lane closures will be announced as scheduled. — R.S.

“All-Star Comedy Jam” at UM-Flint Saturday

FLINT TWP. — Martini Harris, of BET Comic View will headline the second annual “All-Star Comedy Jam,’‘ 7 p.m. April 20 at the U M-Flint Theater, 327 E. Kearsley. Hosted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Flint Alumnae Chapter, the comedy show will also feature appearances by Money Martez, (a protege’ of actor, comedian, film director Robert Townsend) and Melvin Bender, who has opened for Kevin Hart and other comics. CAHS Robotics Team headed to world tourney

FLINT TWP. — Carman-Ainsworth High School Robotics Team 314 competed against 64 other teams from across the state on April 13 and was named a state champion. The team earned enough points to qualify for the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition Championship. They will represent Michigan April 25-27 at the 2013 World Championship to be held at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, MO. They will compete against 400 teams from around the world.—R.S.
