Great Lakes Twirling Academy fundraiser for AAU Junior Olympics

FLINT — The Great Lakes Twirling Academy will hold a fundraiser for the AAU Junior Olympics in Detroit, June 1, at 4 p.m. at PD’s Pub, 5153 Fenton Rd.,Flint (Between Maple & Hill). There will be a spaghetti dinner with salad and bread, along with a silent auction

Cost $10 per person or $25 per family.

FGS to hold annual dinner

FLINT — The Flint Genealogical Society will have its annual dinner June 4, 6 p.m., at The Masonic Temple, 755 S. Saginaw St., Flint.

Speaker will be Kim Crawford, on his book “The Daring Trader: Jacob Smith in the Michigan Territory, 1802-1825.”

Tickets are $15 and the public is welcome.

LWV to hold annual meeting June 2

FLINT — The League of Women Voters of the Flint Area will hold its annual meeting at the Whaley Historical House on Kearsley Street in Flint, on June 2 from 2:30-4 p.m.

The event will include a tea party and celebration of the dedicated membership of four local women: Mary Christian, Helen Harris, Olivia Maynard, and Peppy Rosenthal. These women have been members of the League of Women Voters for 50 or more years.

The Flint Woman Suffrage Club first began in 1915; in 1919, Michigan joined forces with 14 other full suffrage states to create the League of Women Voters.

Thanks to dedicated advocates, the LWV has been able to continually support election reform, election information (through candidate forums and voter guides), voter rights and registration, and support other civic causes such as fair access to health care for all citizens, gender pay equity, quality public schools and libraries, care and protection of our natural resources, etc.

Kidney Cancer group to meet June 12

FLINT — The Kidney Cancer Educational Support Group of Michigan will meet June 12 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, 302 Kensington. Guest speaker:Nancy Dekatch, Dekatch Caregivers Institute.

The topic is “All About Caregiving.” The meeting is open to the public.
