Boating for veterans to hold annual event

FLINT — Boat4vets is having its 5th annual outing on July 13 with a 10 a.m. sign-in time. It is FREE to our veterans. It takes place on Lake St. Claire on Harsens Island and is hosted by the Idle Hour Yacht Club.

They will also have the second annual outing on Aug. 3, with a 10 a.m. sign-in, on Lake Fenton. Hosted by Skipper Bud’s Marina, veterans or boat owners who would like to donate a boat and time, an RSVP is needed to register.

Literacy Coalition holding giant rummage sale

DAVISON TWP. — The Genesee County Literacy Coalition will hold a huge rummage sale at 7382 E. Potter Rd., in Davison, just west of Irish Road.

The 2013 sale times are: June 27-29, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and June 30, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Baker enrolling for summer and fall quarters

FLINT — Baker College of Flint is enrolling students for summer and fall 2013 quarters, with summer classes beginning June 24 and fall classes beginning Sept. 30. Registration is ongoing through the start of classes.

Loeb trust supports Chamber Youth Initiative

FLINT — The Stella and Frederick Loeb Charitable Trust has awarded $9,000 in grants to the Flint and Genesee Chamber of Commerce in support of two youth programs.

A grant for $5,000 was awarded to the Genesee Chamber Foundation (GCF) for the Summer Youth Initiative (SYI) for wage reimbursement to non-profit and for-profit employers of students who have completed the TeenQuest pre-employment training program.

Last year, TeenQuest provided 582 Genesee County youth, ages 14-18 in grades 9-12 personal, leadership and employability experiences for long-term success.

SYI selected employers are eligible to receive wage reimbursement for 90 days of employment of TeenQuest program graduates. The GCF supports programs of the Flint & Genesee Chamber.
