Beth Israel rummage sale set for this weekend

FLINT TWP. — Congregation Beth Israel, 5240 Calkins Road, will hold its annual Sisterhood’s Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 11-13. The doors will open from 8-9 a.m. Sunday for shoppers who pay $5 for early admission. Free general admission begins at 9 a.m. and continues at the same times Monday and Tuesday. — R.S.

Dan Kildee to distribute free gun locks to residents

FLINT TWP. — U.S. Congressman Dan Kildee will distribute free gun locks to residents of the Fifth Congressional District on Aug. 15, from 3–5 p.m., at the Michigan State Police Post, G-4495 Corunna Rd.

Kildee is partnering with local, state and federal law enforcement to promote safe firearms handling and storage practices.

Gun locks are designed to prevent unauthorized access to a firearm. Safety brochures regarding responsible gun ownership will also be provided at the event. The gun locks will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

“Gun locking devices help to promote public safety and secure firearms from unauthorized use,” Kildee said. “I encourage all local residents to stop by the free event, pick up a gun lock and learn about responsible gun ownership practices.”

The event is being held in partnership with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Michigan State Police and the city of Flint. — R.S.

Former Tigers legend to appear at store opening

FLINT TWP. — Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, 5038 Miller Road, has announced its grand opening at 9 a.m. Aug. 14.

MLB Hall of Famer and former Detroit Tiger Al Kaline will make a special appearance. Tickets will be distributed at 7:30 a.m. and Kaline will begin the autograph session at 10 a.m. Tickets will be strictly limited to one per customer.

The store is located next door to Gander Mountain and across the street from Genesee Valley Center shopping mall. Emanuel Church holding big rummage sale

FLINT TWP. — Emanuel Lutheran Church, 6380 Beecher Rd., Flint, is holding a combination rummage, bake, and plant sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 16-17. The huge multifamily sale will include everything from a boat and a travel trailer to children’s clothes and household items. — R.S.
